Founder’s Legacy: Honouring Mr. Mohindar Singh Gulati (1939-2015)

Mr. A K Soni Chairman

Message from the Chairman Honouring Mr. A K Soni

Prior to founding Nitson and Amitsu, I and Mr. Gulati were both working with Engineering Construction Company (ECC) project division, a subsidiary of Larsen and Toubro. Mr. Gulati joined L&T as a graduate mechanical engineer in 1962 and I joined the electrical division as a young engineer in 1967. We met while posted on the same project and our professional relationship continued during our first project at the Kanpur Fertilizer unit. We continued working together on many other landmark projects which were being undertaken by L&T during those years.

As ECC sought to expand the geography of their operations in 1979, Mr. Gulati became the first regional manager of eastern India and after having finished two overseas projects in Qatar, I returned to join Mr. Gulati’s team in Calcutta as a planning manager. Working closely together, our professional relationship matured and developed into a bond of mutual respect & friendship.

In late 1982, Mr. Gulati was offered a promotion and transfer, but instead he decided to put his roots down in Calcutta and asked me to join him in the new venture. We both resigned from ECC in 1983 and putting our accumulated savings into the new business, launched Nitson and Amitsu, naming the company as a combination of the names of our two sons each, with the hope that they would join the company in the future.

Keeping our long-term vision in mind, we always endeavoured foremost to provide technical excellence and unfettered commitment to our clients. With a combined experience of over 35 years at the time of inception, both of us stayed true to our profession training and ethics, never compromising on quality but ensuring the satisfaction that we felt our clients deserved.

Eventually all four of our sons joined the company with fresh ideas and a new vision. The company diversified both in products and in geography allocating greater resources towards façade and aluminium work. Our journey was not without its obstacles but the company continued to grow and earned a name for itself as a dependable and trustworthy partner.

When Mr. Gulati passed away in 2015, I continued at the helm, ensuring that the vision persevered and the values of the company were transmitted to the next generation. When the pandemic arrived, I decided that it was the right time to pass on the reins to Mr. Sonesh Gulati as the Managing Director, to lead the company into the future.

I wish all the members of Nitson and Amitsu family, continued success in their effort to work together as it is with the participation and team work of each and every worker, technician, supervisor and staff that the company has been able to maintain and achieve success.
